Hi Jeremy, GW Micro staff and list members. The bug fixes and new tones for Window-eyes start and stop are enough to ensure that I get the upgrade later today.
However: I must once again express frustration that apart from one bug fix with respect to Braille the much needed development of improved Braille support has been neglected. When will we get the advances in Braille support which some of us loyal paying customers have been asking for now for several years? Amongst the issues I have raised on this list are: direct contracted braille input, redesigning the Braille hot key layout so that there is consistency with the main hot key system: e.g. browse, cursor, mouse Office etc. And so that I don’t forget: an auto braille scrolling function. With respect to specific Braille displays: fixing the hot key information for the Braille Edge and Braille Sense devices, and direct input via the Focus displays from the other company. Clearly, manufacturer co-operation is required. GW has been a non-participant on this list when the topic of Braille support has been raised, but given now that Braille is enjoying a resurgence due in part to devices like smart phones and tablets, there is really no excuse for gw IGNORING the request from Window-Eyes users like myself. Even if for commercial reasons GW remained vague as to new Braille features, it could at least tell us that Window-Eyes v9.0 will promise enhanced Braille Support. So: I am encouraged by the fixes which are part of v8.4, discouraged by the apparent disregard being shown to users of Braille displays. Vaughan.
