Occasionally I get the control-backslash problem that you mentioned.
What I have done in these cases is to go to my desktop and then press
control backslash, then the Window-eyes control panel would come up as
it should.

if you go to the sys tray and enter on Window eyes it dings.
When it does work about half the time the ui opens but focus remains on
