Jeff,

First, I am not seeing the same thing that you are, but Google is known for
customizing layouts based upon things
it detects. Sometimes they will thow up an extra screen such as that to
validate your phone number or other user
information, and you may need to find a "No Thanks" or "Dismiss" button to get
past that. I think you are hung up
on some kind of screen like that. When I just got into my account, there is
both a "SETTINGS" and a "Basic HTML"
link, at least I am finding that. I had to dismiss a page after signing in
before getting to my mail account, but
the screen I dismissed was accessible. Try turning off and turning on Browse
mode since sometimes the Browse Mode
Buffer has not completely loaded and gets confused.

Finally, there is nothing that says you can't use GMail with an email client
like Thunderbird, Windows Live Mail
or Becky. Frankly, I don't even like the accessible web mail layouts.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson
