I have an idea that might work. You could set up a cursoring key on the reply key combination. In Outlook, it's Control-R, for example. Of course, the method depends upon where focus is. If there is a cursor in the text editing field, the cursoring key first action could be execute hot key and the first action info would be the mouse to focus hot key. If there is no cursor in the text editing field, or, if focus is in the "To" edit field, you could set up a WE user window somewhere in the edit field and in stead of choosing execute hot key, you would choose mouse to window, with the first action info window number being the number of the window you had already set up. In either case, the second action would be execute hot key and the second action info would be set to mouse single left click. Clicking the mouse pointer in the text editing field should put focus where you want it, right?
