Hi All:
This is an interesting move on the part of GW.
Being a Microsoft Partner doesnt mean much unless this particular partnership
goes beyond the standard Microsoft Partnership - look up becoming a Microsoft
Partner.
That said, there is hope if GW continues tob uild the relationships within
Microsoft for some game changing developments for WindowEyes and a programming
staff that I have quite a bit of respect for.
I would like to hear:
1) GW and Microsoft are working together to introduce at-cost, or free,
versions of their software to schools, universities and Government Agencies
when involved in training blind students or clients much like Microsoft does
with their Student Discounts and other programs like Starting A Small Business.
2) A dedication to making the entire Microsoft Platform accessible and useable
including improved accessibility hooking from Microsoft and improved use of
these hooks by WindowEyes - especially where there may be propietary code
involved to gain an advantage on the screen reader competition for specialized
applications requested by Government and Education.
3) I would like to have heard of at least $5 to $10 million (chump change for
Microsoft) having been provided to GW for development of this senario and for
training and hiring of more staff.
Finally, A type of Partnership approach with well defined lines of
communications and specific assigned responsibilities and authority and chain
of command to cross facility the developments which might drive this potential
game changer.
All that said, phew, I applaud Doug or whoever came up with this idea - it
could make the diference going forward if both GW and MS can work more and more
closely over the coming months and years.
I dont care about "free" but I do care about quality and support and this move
has great potential.
