Hi Dave: I dont do Transcription but there use to be a e-list for blind
Transcriptionists I belonged to some time ago - perhaps it still exists.
If you need help finding it let me know and I'll google something up for you.
I think it may have been a Medical Transcriptionist list but there are other
forms of Transcription although some of it is automated these days.
There is Legal Transcription and Business as well as various Scientific
Transcriptionists and others or, at least, there use to be these fields.
I am not sure which screen reader is most popular with them these days and
you can check that out with them on the list(s) you find. Some transcription
involves using a foot peddle to run the audio while the Transcriptionist types
what they hear and the software validates it against a database of technical
terms - again that was allot of years ago though.
Later and let me know if you need more help getting in touch with folks in
any field you want to research going into as a profession and I'll be glad to
help if I can.
For googling try terms like "Blind Medical Transcription" or "Visually
Impaired transcriptionists" and other such strings. If you get stuck I'll see
if I can get you something.

accessibility of software and general transcription-related questions?
  thanks, dave
