If your music files ar in MP3, I suggest you download the free software,
called
MP3DirectCut
The benefit of this software, compared to all the other editing software I
have tested, is that it will perform the editing directly on the MP3. All
other software seem to first convert the MP3 into some other format - like
Wav, perform the editing, and then automatically re-encode to MP3. For you
as a user, all of this happens automatically. Yet, it does decrease the
sound quality.
Since MP3DirectCut does all the editing directly on the MP3 data, you dont
loose sound quality. The software is freeware, and can be found on the net.
Simply search for the name, and one of the first choices coming up would be
their homepage. Seem to remember, it ends in .DE, likely since it is a
German product. No worries, it has an English interface. It is possible to
operate it by the mouse-buttons, but it holds a number of hotkes, that will
let you do all the modification. It is quite accessible, and I have used it
a lot for editing MP3 files.
Besides cutting the ends of the file, you even can cut and paste anywhere in
the file. You can split and merge files, or take a part of one file, and
paste it into another file. You can even out the volume level of your files,
and you can search for long pauses in the middle of a sound project. In
other words, you can do pretty much what you need to do, both simple and
more advanced editing. And, it seems to work with all MP3 formats. Too bad,
it does not work with other formats. Smile.

I'm looking for a very simple program that will allow me to edit the
length of some recorded music. This isn't something I expect to have to
do a lot of, so I'd like it to be as uncomplicated as possible. I'm using
the current version of Window-eyes, with Windows XP.
Thanks.
