I use two displays with Window-Eyes - one of these is the Braille Edge 40.

You would expect HIMS to recommend it, as it is their product. And for the
most part: it is a good display which does work well with Window-eyes.

My second display is the earlier model of the focus blue. Whilst I consider
this to be a good display, it performs far less well with window-eyes than does
the edge.

The edge is very reliable, and braille input is smooth. One of its strengths
is the ability for the user to upgrade firmware as updates are released.
Because of its basic features such as a notepad, scheduler etc, you can use the
edge as a braille device away from the computer. It is not a fully fledged
note-taker like the braille sense and I hope that HIMS continues to promote the
primary function as a display as the edge's true purpose.

An issue which does need attention is the renaming of the hot keys within
Window-Eyes. The Edge's eight function keys are listed as advance 1, advance 2
etc. The key names are hard coded into Window-eyes, so the user cannot change
them. The key functions are correct, and can be user defined. GW works with
specific manufacturers to develop default key assignments.

There are some more generic braille display limitations which require some
attention by GW micro. I have advocated for some time that the hot key
interface needs to be redesigned to follow similar conventions to the other hot
key interface. That is - braille hot keys should be grouped in screen, mouse,
browse etc. in a similar need to fix context - window-eyes lacks a continuous
braille scroll function.

There are people on this lists who (quite reasonably) have requested direct
contracted braille entry as currently - regardless of display, window-eyes only
supports computer braille entry.

Returning directly to your question however: the edge is a good choice. You
could decide on a compromise which would be the braille sense U2, but 40 cells
for a dedicated display is better than 32.

Hope this helps.

Vaughan.
