Lynn,

There are three ways of dealing with text that won't fit into a column.  First, 
if there is nothing to the right of the text, it will be extended to the right 
which is when you hear "overlap."

Second, you can make the column wider by increasing the column width.  I get to 
this dialog by pressing ALT-H, O, and then W.  Usually the default is 8.43 
which really means 8 characters.  Remember that if 
you make too many columns wide, they won't all fit on a screen or on a printout.

The third way of dealing with this situation is to specify that the text can be 
wrapped.  This is part of cell formatting, so if you want to allow the text in 
a given column to be wrapped, you have to select the entire 
column first with CONTROL-SPACE.  Then set all cells in that column to wrap 
with ALT H, W.  This means that if text is too wide, it will be wrapped onto 
multiple lines within the column.
