Hi Tim,

This is an updated list of steps for creating a mailing list in Thunderbird. The only difference is that I replaced the Insert-Slash command with Insert-Delete; Insert-Delete is better, since it does drag and drop in one step.

You can do drag and drop from the list where your addresses are located to the mailing list you are creating.

Here are the steps to perform, as per the Desktop keyboard layout.

Let's say your addresses are all stored in Collected Addresses, and the mailing list you are creating is called List1.

Now, for simplicity's sake, let's say you want List1 to be stored within Collected Addresses.

It doesn't really matter where you create a mailing list, but, below, you will see why this is convenient.

Within your Address Book, in the tree view, highlight Collected Addresses, and you will hear "Closed."

This is because it also contains the List1 mailing list.

Now, press right arrow to expand the node containing Collected Addresses, but keep focuson this node.

Next, tab once to the list of contacts, and find one you want to add to List1.

Press Insert-Numpad-Plus to route the mouse to that contact.

Press Insert-Numpad-Delete to invoke the Mouse drag and drop mode, and you will hear "mark."

Now, press Control-Shift-F to invoke Mouse Search mode, and type "List1," and press Enter.

Since you had previously expanded the Collected Addresses node, the mouse search should have found the List1 node just beneath the list of contacts In your Collected Addresses.

You can confirm this by using Numpad-5 to read the current line.

Now, press Insert-Numpad-Delete once again, which will display the mouse drag and drop dialog, where you can activate the Drop button.

This will copy the contact to the List1 mailing list.

Note that this procedure simply copies, but does not move, contacts.

Note also that for subsequent contact copies, Control-Shift-F can be replaced by Insert-F, since you are simply repeating the mouse search.

Hth,

Rod

    Hi Tim,

Yes, it's simply a matter of opening the address book you want to
create the mailing list in, and go to the File menu and selecting
New, and then Mailing list from the pull-down menu.

    Rod
