You have to use one line view to do what you want.

My XP machine died last week and since xp support is going away next Monday,
I have switched to my Windows 8.1 machine that I had as a backup for a while
now. The only pproblem that I’m having is with live mail. I have view set
to two line view as links seem to work better in that view. I’m missing W E
telling me where I am in a message list.
Is there a setting that I can change to bring back the list position info in
live mail?
