Many thanks. That seems to be exactly what is happening here.

I will try to explain my findings although I am not sure this is exactly the same. When you install WE, it is configured so that braille shows both the focus and also if something like a tooltip gets focus it is presented in braille. When I use arrows to navigate between items in explorer, two things happen: 1. The focus moves to the relevant item 2. After about a second, a tooltip is displayed containing information about the chosen item (things like date modified etc.) I also get the blank braille line at the end of this process. More precisely, a line of a custom control with blank content. I believe that the second part of the tooltip getting braille focus is where things go wrong. I can guess that maybe the part that shows the tooltip on braille reaches the end of the tooltip which has a blank part, or that this process has a bug which leaves braille focus on a custom control. If you disable quick message mode, the tooltip is not presented in braille, and this problem is avoided (but you lose other messages you might have wanted to be aware of in braille). I also tried disabling quick message mode only for explorer, but this does not work for this specific setting. I have reported this part of not being able to change this settings for specific programs to GW Micro. Personally, I feel that this particular tooltip should not be presented in braille at all in the WE default settings. I am not sure this is exactly the same as your problem, but I hoped this email might help. #11 Subject: RE: Braille display in Windows Explorer lists From: <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> Date: Mon, 7 Apr 2014 14:48:26 +0000 Thanks Chris. I could not find that option for my braille unit. However, I have switched off the Quick Message Mode and that seems to have had the same effect. Regards, John.
