Hello, Thunderbird users.

Thank you, Rod, for the information on the "Repair" button for each Thunderbird folder. This was the second thing I tried after a system restore. Unfortunately, in my case, the Inbox repair resulted in the loss of several messages and some messages listed out of date sequence. No amount of sorting could bring them back to their date/descending order. Fortunately, I had backed up my Inbox folder before attempting this move.

Rod, thank you very much for your continuing diligence.

Hi Craig, and others having trouble with deleted messages reappearing or blank messages in your inbox,

I have found a Repair button in the Properties dialog of every folder in the Thunderbird treeview. So, you highlight your inbox, press the Application key or Shift-F10, press up arrow in order to get to the last option in the pull-down, and press Enter. Tab repeatedly until you get to the Repair button, and this is what you press. If you use Control-Shif-W to read the dialog, you'll hear what the Repair button does; you have to wait a while since the info pertaining to it is, like the Repair button itself, at the bottom of the dialog; you could use the mouse to review the info also. Additionally, just to be clear, should you be using the Unified folder view, you must expand the inbox folder, and highlight the specific account inbox you wish to repair, and only then do you press the Application key, arrow up to Properties, press Enter, and then you'll find the Repair button. I emphasize this point just in case you view the properties of a folder and wonder why you can't find the repair button. At any rate, I have used this method to repair the inboxes I was having trouble with, and aalso the folder to which I was routing incoming messages using message filters; let's hope it does the trick.

All the best,

Rod

Hello, Rod.

I did indeed try a system restore before posting my message. No joy. Doing so was a very sensible suggestion on your part.

For testing purposes, I'm thinking of installing a clean copy of Thunderbird on a flash drive and placing my profile on it to see if the messages with blank bodies miraculously come back. My copy of Thunderbird has been on my computer for along time and has gone through countless upgrades, and it may be that somewhere, some instability has been introduced. At any rate, as I said before, I can restore Thunderbird from a backup copy when I get home, so messages currently unavailable will be restored except for those received over the last four days of travel.

Thank you so much for your concern.

Best,
Craig

Hi Craig,

It occurs to me that a system restore might put things back in order, since I'm not experiencing what you are. It sounds more like a fault in one of your files than a problem with Thunderbird. Of course, as always, this is a guess. smile

Take care,

Rod

Hello, Rod.

Please hold onto that installer for a while. <smile> I have been reading Mozillazine articles on Inbox folder repair, and I attempted such a remedy; but I ended up worse than before with messages entirely deleted and the date order of the messages in the Inbox scrambled in a way that resembled no known sort order. Fortunately, I had backed up my Profile before attempting the fix, so now I am back to where I was a couple of hours ago when I first noticed that messages were showing up in the index but failing to display. I'll keep on searching and playing, and I'll keep you posted.

Best,
Craig

Hi Craig,

Thanks. Also, I have version 24.2 installer, and so we could revert to it, and if we disabled updates, I think we could just import our mailboxes and we'd be okay. I have DropBox if you want the installer. Let's see what we think. smile

Take care,

Rod

Hello, Rod.

Thank you so much for replying to me. There could indeed be something odd going on with Thunderbird's upgrades. Fortunately, I backed up my profile before I went on the trip on which I am now engaged, so if things can't be resolved, I can always drop back to my Inbox as it was about four days ago. If I uncover something helpful, especially if it's a total remedy, I'll be sure to let you know.

Best,
Craig
