I couldn't use Windows Live Messenger as of some time last year. I guess
I'm saying it depends on where you are in the world as they don't pull
the plug at once it seems.

With Microsoft it's very hard to tell. Last year they
announced the death of windows live messenger, but that still works even
to this very day. I would say, keep using it til you can't use it
anymore and then switch to the regular skype. That seems like the
easiest way to go about it.

Hi Chris and everyone:
I just read the newws about GW-Connect.
I also opened GW Connect and it let me go online. I even tried to
make a call to someone and I got the usual ringing followed by a
message saying that this person was not available at this time, which
I expected since he was not online.
I would have thought that if GW Connect had stopped working, then I
would not have gotten online at all.
Am I to assume that GW Connect will stop working at midnight?

GW Connect uses the SkypeKit to make its connection to the Skype

It is the heart of GW Connect.
Microsoft is no longer supporting any product that uses the SkypeKit.
As of
Monday GW Connect will no longer connect to the Skype servers.
Hope this helps.

Subject: support for skype kit ends
Hello everyone,
What's this I hear about support for Skype kit ending? What is Skype
kit? I
have both standard skype and gw connect installed on my computer and
have
never had to purchase anything extra to get either to work. Are you
telling
me that as of Monday Augast 4, my free version of gw connect will stop
working? This can't be. I depend on gw connect because of its
accessibility
and ease-of-use. Although standard Skype is not as user friendly, I
still
use it, in conjunction with mp3 Skype recorder. So what does this
mean for
those of us who use the free client on our pcs that we've downloaded
from
the app central site?
