I think what you want to change is actually the default Style sheet for Word 2010. By default, Word 2010 adds extra paragraph spacing between lines and I don’t like it either. To change it back to what it looked like in Word 2003, do the following.
Go to the Home ribbon then over to the Styles group. The second button in the Styles says Change Styles. If you activate that drop down, the first option is a submenu that will allow you to arrow down through a number of fancy names for styles you can pick. Toward the bottom is Word 2003. Press Enter on that. If you always want your new documents to use this style, go back to the same Change Styles button and arrow to the last open, which is set as default.
