This function works for me most of the time, using the Windows Live Mail app version 1.29. But the search for a mailbox only works from the top of the tree downward. So if I succeed in getting ctrl-Alt-V to move a message to my gw-info box, it will fail to find anything if I want to put another message into Blind-hams later in the same session. Most of my mailboxes branch off a particular node called Local Folders, so if I hit Left Arrow before typing the initial letters of Blind-hams, the app will succeed in finding that mailbox once again. If ctrl-Alt-V fails, which it sometimes does, I use Alt-O, I, M, which enables the app to do the same thing. If your mailboxes are one inside another inside another, etc., the app might not work reliably enough. For me, the same app mechanism works if I want to look in a folder with ctrl-Y. Windows 7, WE 8.4, and a reasonably up-to-date version of WLM holding more than 24,000 messages in several dozen folders.
