David, I don't think what you want requires anything more than using the Windows Backup and Restore software. You don't want to transfer system files from one computer to a different model of machine. You can easily backup all of your personal data including email, favorites, documents, etc. using either Windows Backup and Restore or the Windows 7 Easy Transfer software.

I have a windows 7 laptop that is almost 5 1/2 years old and it is giving out. I have had it cleaned, repaired and all that good stuff and it is time to get a new computer. Right now I do not have the money for a new computer but my mom bought a windows 7 computer brand new 3 years ago, used it 6 months and didn't like it so she bought a desktop computer. She has offered to give it to me since she knows I need the computer. Her laptop is in great shape because all she ever did was do email on it and would occasionally use explorer if she was sent a greeting card. Otherwise the computer is completely clean and free of any problems at all. It doesw have more memory than my computer but otherwise has windows 7, 64 gb and all that stuff just like my current computer has. So what I am wondering is there a way to back up everything that is on my computer so when I get the one from my mom all I have to do is put the backed up files onto the new computer and things will be just as they are on my new computer? I have looked at carbonite but wondered if there was possibily something else that people have used and can recommend it to me. I have so much stuff on my computer like favorites in explorer, bookmarks in mazilla, important emails I must keep plus all the updates and apps of Window eyes. I really don't want to have to start over again. Also my current computer is completely free of any virus's and things like that, it is just worn out according to the repair man I have taken it to. I trust the man completely because he has done things for me when I had issues for a long long time. Any help will greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
