The "Task switching" comment, I have hated ever since I started using
Win7 on my computer, and had to deal with it (even under WE8.4). Sure, I
am switching tasks when hitting Alt-tab, and I have been doing that for
thirteen years. Yet, for all those years, I have knowingly been doing
so, without been told that this is what I am doing. It just seems
totally non-comprehendable to me, why they ever added it to the verbage.
As if we don't have enough of chatter in our ears? And, this could be
well enough, had it had any functionality or sped up any productivity.
But to the very extreme contrary. Till date, I have seen noone who
happen to be more productive, by being told that they are switching
tasks. It compares to your GPS telling you "Driving on the road",
everytime you happen to let your car move an inch. See how many drivers
would still be using the GPS. :)

We have never needed this comment, and I don't know if we will in the
future. It just is frustrating. If they for some reason want it there,
at least make it a user choice if he wants that silly comment. By the
way, another such chatter that has frustrated me for a long time, is in
all the Mozilla products. There I keep hearing "application Main
Window". Again a comment that has ABSOLUTELY no beneficial place, the
way I see it. Neither has any user or staff member ever been able to
tell me the benefit of it. May I ask the Beta testers, if that comment
still lingers in the Beta?

The indexing of entries in the list of open windows, that you here are
describing, is something I for one have been asking earlier. After all,
NVDA handles that part totally wonderful, telling me the window I am
switching to and its index in the list. I find it useful, specially in
cases where I have several instances of a given software running
simultaneously. For instance, if I have opened two new documents, each
in its own Notepad window. WE will say "Untitled Notepad", no matter
which one I am switching to. This can be a bit confusing, and may take
some extra time in checking out if it was the right window I landed in.
With NVDA, I will be informed "Untitled Notepad, 1 of 10", and
""Untitled Notepad, 4 of 10". This way, simply remembering that my
temporary shopping list is in number 1, and my temporary manuscript for
my next talk is in number 4, I can quickly multitask in my daily
activity. OK, maybe Notepad is not the most perfect example, but I take
it that you all get the idea. Would be nice, could they have implemented
this indexing feature. Even if they could have made it a user-defined
setting, that everyone could turn it on/off to their liking.

That's my point. Get rid of the Task Switching comment altogether,
something which I have talked about before. Just have the list like
Jim was describing before so peple know how many icons are on the
screen they are switching to. But there's never been a point in the
task switching thing, it's just something I try to ignore. Hence,
saying, window, task switching, it also pointless.

I have to respectfully disagree. If I’m alt-tabbing, by definition,
I’m task switching. I was perfectly happy never hearing “task
switching”. If there was a way to make this an option to turn on or
off, fine, but to me it’s just extra verbeage.

Yeah, what Jim said. copy the way that narrator reads the icons and
tells you how many you have open, I think that would be a great feature
to have.

task switching. What are you in? a window. What should
window-eyes tell you. Well that you are task switching and the name
of the task you are switching to. The problem with this is that the
feedback is not consistent. The problem is also that you don't get an
index count.

box. goldWave 1 of 3. Inbox Microsoft outlook 2 of 3. Desktop 3 of
3. Note so window-eyes tells me that I am in the task switching list
the first time I press alt+tab. If I keep holding down the alt key I
have not left the list so it just reports the name and index of the
task I am switching to. Then of course when I let go of the alt key I
am placed in that program I have just switched to.
