The only problem is that it happens on GW's web site when I backspace over
characters, for example, to search the GW site. In fact, it occurs
consistently on every web site I have tried when in an edit box, not just on
certain sites.

It's a security feature of UIA. They don't tell us anything about secure

WE beta 3 on a windows 7 64 bit machine and using IE 11. When on such
sites that require user names and passwords when trying to backspace
over a miss typed character in the password edit box We dings and does
not speak character being removed.
