I can confirm the F8 to be pretty inconsistent. What I have seen numerous examples of, is cases when you want to copy the text of a Link. That is, not the link iself, all that http-suff, but simply the text that it displays. For instance, as lately as yesterday, I needed to copy a parcel number off from my local Postal Service's website. The number is the label of a Link, meaning if you press the link, you will be taken to a page where all the shipping process is listed. I did not need that page, just needed the shipping number for further reference in my contact with the transporter. No matter how many times I tried to position my cursor at the beginning of the label, press F8, arrow to the end of the label, press F8 another time, then press Enter on the Copy To Clipboard button in the popup menu. It simply did never work, resulting in me giving up on the whole matter.

Another page I visited yesterday, again with the text of a link which I wanted to copy, no chance whatsoever. On that page, I even tried to mark out the two lines of plain text ahead of the link, along with the two lines of text that are just underneath the link. That is, in total five lines, with the link-text being the third one. Setting the start and end marks with F8, asking it to copy To The Clipboard, it says "Copied to clipboard". I don't know what it speaks that message for, unless it meant to tell me that NOTHING had been copied. Opening Notepad, and pressing Ctrl-V, there was NOTHING, NOTHING and NOTHING being pasted into the document. The clipboard seemed totally blown and empty, vacuumed for any contents you had intended to copy. Repeating the steps ten times, only experiencing the very same behavior, resulted in me giving up on the matter.

Now over to a local netshop. Here I do my browsing, and find a product which I want to make a note of. That is, I want to save the name of the product. Being a product with a somehow foreign spelling of the name, I want to make sure I get it correct in my notes. Finding the name is no trouble, since it is marked as a Heading on the page. And with good old Shift-Arrow methods, it would have been a matter of three simple keystrokes, to have the whole name copied and pasted into my notes. Place yourself at the beginning of the name, (keystroke1) Shift-End, (Keystroke2) Ctrl-C, go to your notes, (Keystroke3) Ctrl-V to paste; job would have been done. With the new selection method, I need perform the following: Place yourself at the beginning of the text. (keystroke1) press F8. (keystroke2) press End, since we want the whole line. (Keystroke3) press F8 again. (Keystroke4) Press Enter or Space on the Copy-button. (Goto your notes. (Keystroke5) Ctrl-V; only to realize NOTHING AT ALL was copied. First of all, 66 Percent more keystrokes, and then to get NOTHING DONE. Try it over again - even a hundred times if you want - NOTHING GETS DONE. Tis results in me often copying a whole webpage, Ctrl-A + Ctrl-C, and paste it into a notepad window for manually editing.

Only good thing about it all, is the fact that AISquared decided to be inconsistent enough, to only implement this copy-method of F8 with the Browse mode. Had they consistently made it the method across the whole board, we would have been left with no chance of copying material, 90 percent of the time.

The few times I have got F8 to work, it has its definite benefits. If you see something on a page you know will be the start of your selection, you can simply press F8 to set the start-mark, then continue with your reading. Once you reach the end of the block of text you want copied, you simply just press F8 again, and accept the copying. Great thing, you don't have to Shift-Arro up and down 20 lines. They told us, this is an approach to make our activity more like the mouse-activity of sighted people. Sorry, but I have a hard time in thinking any sighted people would ever have accepted a copy and paste method that works so inconsistently. If they meant to have it work similar with the sighted world, I would have hoped for a similar reliable way. Let's just hope it won't take too long, before they re-introduce the Shift-Arrowing, like they have promised.
