Hello Donna. Please take this message as a positive one.

The thing is, they are not limitations, but more of how things work now. If you want to talk about limitations in that sense of the word, then the fact that the Braille Sense has 8 gb of storage can also be viewed as a limitation by some because many other machines out there such as laptops and netbooks have 120 or 160 gb hard drive space. So someone in a situation who wants lots and lots of space could say that the Braille Sense has a serious flaw in a limitation of 8 gb of space for the flashdisk. So what it comes down to is personal needs. You asked in another message what drugs HIMS was on when they created the Sense. I can answer that somewhat.

1. stability has been greatly enhanced since the 3.x version days of the Braille Sense.

2. Language of messages and capitalization of menus was added for those Braille gurus.

3. Ability to open html emails in the browser was added so you can interact with links in emails.

4. Audible support was added to the media player, with NLS on its way coming this year.

5. ssl support was added to email, and let's face it, most isps who use ssl don't always force you to use tls although I personally would like to see tls support as well.

Those are just a small few features and enhancements which were added or updated since early 2008. Have you read the changes between versions we released? There are many more? Is email needing more updating? Of course it is. I never said it was never going to be addressed, nor did I dismiss your emails without consideration. However when you take time to see how many programs the Braille Sense has for everyone to use, you can't simply say that you want program x to be enhanced at the expense of program y. We need to carefully balance out everything as a whole. How much space does the Braillenote have? 128 mb of flashdisk space I believe. The original Braille Sense had 64 mb of space. This just might be a possibility as to why a sent folder was not added in the email program when this device came out. Now with the limitation of 8 gb of space in Braille Sense and 1 gb of flashdisk space on the voice Sense, perhaps we can all fill it up with sent mail in the email. I would personally like to see the email program enhancements like what you describe because I use the email program a lot. In fact, I personally use it more than the DAISY player and the Schedule manager yet these two applications are in need of more updates than the email program. So do we go with my personal likes and preferences? Of course not, we must go with what we see as the most users are using and what the majority of the users want. And this is not even just US and Canada users. Remember that the Sense products are sold throughout the world. GW Micro is but one distributer. So when HIMS adds new features and enhancements, it's not just GW Micro customers who are considered.

I hope that this will help you understand that we are not just dismissing your suggestions and comments regarding the email program. However it is not fair to say that we need to list the lack of a sentmail folder as a limitation. Perhaps it is fair to list the lack of controlling which pop3 emails are downloaded as a limitation since other similar products can do it though. We are also not saying that the limitations you are seeing with email are always going to stay that way. We will do what we can to see that everything gets updated, but things like this take time and we must always prioritize.

If however you are not able or not willing to wait and see how the enhancements will help further shape this machine into an even finer product, as others have said, there are many who will jump at the chance to purchase your unit.

Hope this helps.

Hi Stacey,

It's the right price that's the ouch, and is at the root of my frustration.
It's hard when you spend so much money on something and find that it doesn't
meet your needs. I can't really afford to discount it, so in some ways I'm
better off keeping it. I guess I just wish that GWMicro would let people
know about the email limitations, maybe in that comparison chart on their
website, so that anyone considering purchasing would be able to take that
into account.
Thanks again,
Donna

Hi Donna,
I'm sure you'd find a buyer if the price was right.
I think that there's a buy sell trade list for blind people but I don't know
the address.

Thanks, Stacey. I am giving some serious thought to selling the device.
I'm really glad you're happy with yours, I do think that if email
weren't so high on my list, I would be happy with it as well. I really
do love the media features, and I think the Word Processor and File
Manager are very well-designed. But I like having a portable email
device, and am sort of a Braile junkie, so often find it cumbersome to
do email on my phone.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion, it's definitely something I'm
thinking about.
Take care,
Donna

Hi Donna,
I don't use my voice sense for email all the time so have not
encountered
your issue.
If you are not happy with the device though, you could always
sell it. I'm sure someone would be very glad to get it. Good luck.

Hi Mike,

First, regarding your idea of copying email to yourself so you know
that it was sent, that is not the primary reason I typicaly
view sent
mail. I find that I view sent mail because a student will have
questions about whether an email was sent, or what the
content of an
email was. The only way for me to address this on the bS
would be to
leave a copy of every message I ever send in my Inbox, or take the
extra steps that Colleen described of saving the messages to an
external location. That's an awful lot of extra steps, particularly
when those steps are the result of archaic email handling by the BS.

My point isn't that they're aren't work arounds, but that the BS
products lag significantly behind other adaptive tech
devices insofar
as email is concerned. I know no devices are perfect. But these
shortcomings are major, at least for me. I wish that I had
known of
them prior to my purchase, as had I known of them, I would
never have
bought the device in the first place. I'm not trying to be
malicious
or disruptive here. It's just that this was a pretty expensive
mistake, and I'd like to save someone else that costly misfortune.
Donna

Although the Sense noetakers can't selectively delete
messages from
the server, they can delete the entire block of downloaded
email from
the server.

I don't let the BS delete messages from the server,
preferring to let
my computer do that when I spool email.

Not being able to view sent email is a nuisance, but you
can bcc your
email address.

That's true, of course, Vicky. I'd already been doing that
because of
the inability to leave certain messages on the server. I
suppose I'm
just very frustrated at the email inadequacies of this
device. There
are three issues: 1 the lack of TLS support, 2, the inability to
selectively delete messages from the server, and 3, the
inability to
view messages one has sent. Frankly, I've never seen
another device
where one can't view sent messages. I can't imagine what
kind of drugs
the people at HIMS were on when they thought this would be
acceptable.
And, re deleting messages from the server, that is something the
Pacmate, and I believe the BrailleNote have been able to
do since
there inception. Again, this is basic stuff, and it's
unacceptable
that a $6000 device would not be able to do these
things. I bought
the BS when I did to avoid a very expensive repair bill on
my PM, and
now I'm going to have to pay for that repair anyway,
because of BS
inadequacies. I'm sorry I ever purchased this thing.

My advice to anyone out there considering purchasing this
device would
be, if a primary function of the device would be to do
email, don't
walk, run the other direction. Donna

Of course, there is always the option of sending a copy of any
really important message to yourself as well. With
all the email
problems my
BrailleNote seems to be having lately, I routinely send
myself a copy of any
messages I'm wanting to be sure are delivered correctly when
I'm using the
BN instead of the VS or PC.

Hello. It is not currently possible to view sent mail. We are
hoping to enhance the email program in a future update.

Many thanks.

Hello all,

Does anyone know how you can view sent email messages on
the BS Plus?
The only folders I see when I go into the list are the
Inbox and the
Storage Box. TIA,
Donna
