Thanks for your note. If a person tries to print using Windows but does not have the proper driver, no printing will be done. When that driver is installed, printing can be done.
I am guessing here, but whatever else the driver needs, the proper PCL must be present as a part of the driver. This is why I more or less said that there has to be one driver even in WinCE. Otherwise printing if not possible. Within the driver in our notetakers, one of its requirements must be that PL 3 must be present, and the printer being used also must have that in its firmware. I don't know if one can buy a parallel printer and even then, would it likely have the PCL 3? If that's the case, why supply the USB to parallel converter; it's unlikely that no paralleverl printer will ever work with our units. I think Our manuals need more info about printing than is present, especially about parallel printers. You are all programmers and are so familiar with all of these elements that you tend to overlook which we users need to know or think we already know.
