Alex, As you surmise, in each of the situations you posit, no record of which document was last worked upon is kept. This means that the only way to have the same document come up immediately is to not close it, that is, turn the unit off with the word processor still active or as one of the programs being used at the time you turned the unit off.
Note, however, that if you *d* open a document, you will be at the place you left off when you closed it.
