You can do it but you'll probably need to do two things: (1) use a patch cord with an atenuator in it so that the signals won't be too strong for the automatic volume control to work properly (if you don't do this, the signals will be distorted) and (2) if you're recording music, you may want to go into the recording parameters for Media Player and increase the "quality" of the MP3 stream (increase the bits per second) as it's now set primarily for voice.
Personally, I'd rather use something like TotalRecorder or WavePad on my PC to make/edit the recordings and then place the resulting files on my BS Plus or VS rather than try to record directly.
