I used it also but there weren't enough technological and scientific words
with abreviations or short-forms and too many religious words. Had I been
in seminary, however, I suspect I would have been happy!

I googled grade three braille and I found an article written about three
methods of braille speedwriting. One was braille shorthand, one was a
system invented by someone named Adams, the the third was grade 3 braille.
The author of the article compared all three systems and concluded grade 3
braille was the most popular because it was easyier to learn and it built
on the knowledge of grade two braille. I found the article to be very
interesting.
Grade 3 braille was very useful to me before the days of the notetakers,
(grin). I suppose people in the 20th century needed the system because
most people used the slate and stylus. I used it with the Perkins.
Ah, well! Times change!

Terri, when I saw your note, I became curious about this too. The
only reference whatsoever to Grade 3 Braille in Wikipedia was a very
obscure one which pointed to the idea that Grade 3 is never used for
publication, but only for people's private notetaking purposes. I
guess that since less than 10% of visually-impaired folks even read
Braille any more, the attention is now shifting just to getting Grade
1 and Grade 2 into people's heads so they can be functionally literate
on a baseline level.
I looked in National Braille Press' catalog, too, and found no
publications whatsoever about Grade 3. That was shocking. But I did
find the following book, which still appears to be available from
American Printing House for the Blind. It was mentioned in an obscure
posting on the Duxbury User Discussion List on Freelists.org:
