Did you ever manage to get your time zone set correctly? And, did you say you are in the eastern time zone? If so, when you press enter on the set time and date, you'll land on the time zone combo box. There, you can just use first letter navigation and press E to get you to the eastern time zone. Or, for that matter, you may use the arrow keys to move up and down "to view the various time zones.
