Hello Martha, I fully agree with you, however this was not our decision.
HIMS indicated to us that online upgrades to 5.51 would not be possible.

Hello all, this is an informal announcement of the 5.51 firmware
release of the Sense notetakers. I meant to get this out the door
before the end of business earlier today, but I was unable to. A
formal announcement will go out on Monday. In the mean time, the below
links will take you to the download pages for the firmware as well as
the list of changes. Please note that online updates are not available
with the 5.51 update. This means that all updates to 5.51 will have to
be done using the offline method. Instructions for this can be found
in Knowledge Base article kb1091. For SenseNav users, the 5.51
firmware uses the Sendero 2010 SDK with the 2010 maps. If you are an
older SenseNav user, you will need to purchase a license key in order
to use SenseNav 2010. If you have previously been using SenseNav 2010
on firmware 5.5, you can just upgrade to 5.51 without issue. You can
read more about the SenseNav upgrade and how to handle it from
Knowledge Base article KB1119.
