No matter whether I have the progress indicator set to beep or message, I don't hear a thing when a file is downloading on the OnHand. Although, I do hear either the message or the beep, depending on my setting, when a web page is loading. And, technically, although I do hear beeps on the VS when a file is downloading, I guess the manual doesn't really say that one will hear anything when a file is being downloaded on either unit: Progress indicator shows the progress of opening a document, copying files or opening any webpage.
