Jay,
If I were in your shoes, I would do the following:
1. Hook OnChildFocus and OnChildBlur for the ClientInformation.Overlap
window -- that's the overlap window of the application that launched the
script. It's possible that you'll need to watch some other window. I'm
not sure how MOC works. If you can have a chat window open outside the
main window, then you may have to watch the Desktop window. That's what
I do for Skype. Regardless, you need to know when the list box window
that you're interested in gets focus and loses focus.
2. When the class name of the list box you're interested in gets focus,
hook the OnObjectFocus event from MSAAEventSource.
3. When OnObjectFocus fires, verify that the Accessible object from the
event is something useful, and speak the name.
4. When the list box window loses focus, unhook the OnObjectFocus event.
That's a start. Let me know if that helps.

I am trying to write a script for Microsoft Office Communicator (the Office
instant messaging client). When I arrow down through the List Items for the
contacts, I want to get the List Item object so I can say its accessible name
and value. I'm sure I just missing something really quite simple but I just
want to be able to obtain the Window handle to the current item with focus and
so I can get its accessible properties. I looked in the scripting manual and
try to search some of the existing vbs files but I'm obviously not searching
for the right thing. Can someone give me some pointers???
NOTE: What is happening now is that Window-Eyes seems to be saying the value of
the list item but not the name property. The value property only contains the
status of the contact (e.g. online or away). It is the name property that has
the contact's name.
