Hi all,

Has anyone tried to use Open Office 3.0 with WE? I just installed it just
to see what would happen. When I downloaded my latest version of Java they
wanted me to download Open Office. I assumed from this that it must use
Java. What I have found so far is that WE can read the screen with the
mouse pointer, but nothing speaks automatically. You cannot track the
cursor. In my Electronic Drug Reference WE could not even read the screen
with the mouse pointer. All it could see was the tidal bar. I know it is
written in Java. I expected the same thing from Open Office. I tried it
with NVDA, which will read Java, and it worked. So what I am wondering is:
Is Open Office written in Java? If so, why can WE read the screen with the
mouse? This would indicate that WE is somewhat aware of some Java apps. I
am so anxious to get my hands on WE4Java to see what it will do. There is a
specific setting that you have to turn on for it to work with screen
readers. I could not accomplish this with NVDA, but I could with the mouse
pointer in WE. I don't know exactly what this does, but I do know that NVDA
is using the JAB. If Open Office is written specifically to work with the
JAB, then I am wondering if this alternate approach will work as well. Jay,
what do you think?

I also noted in their Accessibility settings they had a setting that you
could turn on to have a cursor in the read only edit boxes Jay was talking
about. If you turn this on you can read the text normally.
