ok, thanks to both of you.
 
I usually do my editing in the VBA IDE of office, but when I'm just reading
someone else's work, I don't usually bother importing it there.  I'll use
wordpad.

Notepad++ is my default editor, so I never have to worry about this silly
issue. So try that, some other less neanderthal-like editor, or find some
sort of search replace utility that will convert all \r to \r\n.
