For the sake of completeness, it should be noted that other screenreaders
(SuperNova, and possibly JAWS) do not have this issue. I'm not trying to start
a screenreader flame war (so please, don't start one), I'm just saying they do
something that isn't affected by this redrawing, so it's certainly possible.

I do use NP++, but not with a screen reader -- it's a sighted thing. The
issue you're having has to do with the fact, inane that it is, that they redraw
the entire line every time the cursor blinks. You can get around this problem
in Notepad++ by changing the default theme to something like Zenburn (under
Settings -> Style Configurator -> Select Theme). One potential drawback to that
is your highlights will most likely be affected. You could instead just change
the font style of the default theme to something like Consolas instead of
Couriew New. I'm not sure we have a solution for this -- they're really doing
awful things with the text.

Wondering if there are any Notepad++ users on list. I thought I recalled
Aaron using it at one point and some others might that I do not know about. If
so, I'm wondering about some inaccuracy in the text editing window that I see
with Window Eyes. When moving by word or character, I often get dings or double
speaking of characters when there shouldn't be. For example, consider the line:

this (is a test) how fun

Basically every time I arrow over this text in Notepad++ by character, the
paren characters are spoken twice instead of the paren character and the
character immediately to its right. For instance, the 'i' in 'is' is always
replaced when reviewing by character by a '(', and instead of the space
character I'd expect I get the ')' spoken.. These results are the same no
matter which direction I'm moving in. Also, moving by word consistently
produces dings, and they seem particularly concentrated when the word has
leading or trailing parentheses. Is this something in Notepad++'s syntax
highlighting that is confusing Window Eyes? I disabled the 'Enable current line
highlighting' in the preferences dialog, but no difference. I have changed the
language setting to text (figuring this has the least amount of syntax
highlighting cuteness) but again no difference. I have reclassed the text area
to an editbox, but that also does not produce any different results for better
or worse.

If noone's played with Notepad++, please ignore my ranting, although I'm
taking suggestions for windows text editors with strong coding features.
EdSharp is fantastic at first glance, but it has a collection of quirky,
difficult to duplicate bugs that make it frustrating to work with sometimes.
I'm a little cool on UltraEdit, 'cause $50 seems a lot for a text editor, and
VBSEdit is apparently good, but the majority of my programming is not in
VBScript. I have been doing more programming targeted at the Windows platform
lately (including a few things for Window Eyes), and it's just not convenient
to do the coding for this in Emacs and GEdit over on the Linux side, which is
what I've been doing for some time.
