Hi Rick,

It's not clear to me if you mean VBScript (used by WinEyes and available via
Windows .vbs files) or if you mean VBA (available inside of MS Office
products). They are mostly similar languages, but they don't have any
working relationship between one another. That is, if MS doesn't support
VBA in Office products, I would expect the VBScript portion of Windows (and
used in WinEyes) to be unaffected.

MS has been threatening to drop VBA in Office for quite a while (I think
this first was mentioned when 2003 was released); I haven't kept up on the
latest, but there's always been an outcry from industry who has a *huge*
amount of legacy applications which wouldn't be able to run under Office 13;
so, I'd be surprised if they abandoned it. Right now I'm involved in our
own large 2003 to 2010 VBA conversion project, and so I'm aware of how many
others in industry are doing the same thing; it's very much like COBOL in
this respect.

If they did however, I'd guess they would just advise folks to use vb.net
express.

Hth,

Chip

Subject: VBA MS Continued Support?

Hi:

I have been looking at VBA as a language to recommend to some programmers on
the Blind Programming list since you guys are very good and there are allot
of code snipets available to learn from.

That said, I just read that Office 2013 will not support VBA macros anymore
and, on allot of sites, that VBA is dying and will not be around much longer
but nothing about that yet from Microsoft.

What have you heard and what language will become the new scripting standard
if VBA goes away for WE developers?

I want to help them get started learning to program, most of them have some
background but not enough to tackle a full-blown IDE like Visual Studio.

Also, if they join this list they will get exposed to the WindowEyes screen
reader which would make my life easier helping them with accessibility
issues.

Have any of you heard anything about the demise of VBA and are there any
rumors about what GW will do if it does indeed go away?
