Creating a progress bar in an app

Hi guys,

It's great that we have the Progress indicator app to track software 
which has a progress bar, but how would we go about creating a progress 
bar so that we could make use of the convenience of the reporting 
offered by the Progress indicator app?  I'm thinking of those situations 
where we want to mark time while a process is occurring.
