Hi Jim:
I understand WE can support other languages both in JavaScript for its
script manager thingy and for all sorts of external languages.
But, what direction is WE headed in?
What will be the defacto language and how much documentation is available on
creating an app in that language?
What abuot those who have to convert their apps into another language and
only know vbscript?
The production of a road map gives programmers time to start looking at
preferred options where a significant lead time is required to implement new
tools.
I think this is a good and relevant question to ask at this time.
Not only is there a lead time for the WE Scripting community but for gW
itself to change all their websites and documentation, historical and going
forward, to some new language.
This includes a complete ReWrite of, if not change, of the WE Object Model.
I am just asking if there is a plan in place and, for example, what language
the WE Object Model and all the related Documentation will be changed to.
WE should know this if they are thinking more than 1 year out and as
programmers we should be thinking more than one year out also to allow for
lead time for planning conversions, learning a new language and thinking
about new possibilities for scripting.
Anyway, it is just a question - I have no dog in the language race and can
likely work with any language they pick.
I am just curious since I was thinking of helping someone with a script but
don't want to waste allot of time using a dead language if I can use the
next language that will become the replacement for vbscript in all the
sample code base and WE Documentation.
