Well, to be clear, they didn't so much "hack a VBScript" as hack a web site; and once a criminal can hack a web site and replace a valid update with their own program, it can do anything and anyone can do it. This could have happened to Adobe with one of those frequent Adobe updates . if someone replaced it with their program, it could then do anything once you say "yes, go ahead", which is what we all did.
It's depressing, but no specific blame attaches to GW; companies are being hacked all over the net. Someone created a update to the GwToolkit thingy, vb script? And is hacking your computer. Just be happy they didn't delete the hard drive. Gw I think has a fix hout this morning. My question is whether it is as easy as hacking a vb script to trash someones machine or what safeguards are in place to avoid that by GW? In other words, if this hacker is a vb script creator can they write a update to someone elses script and when that script runs could it destroy my computer with something as simple as a vb script? I got a tool kit update this morning. Then discovered a message which states, "Greeting From The Islamic State" There is more to that, but it ended with, "Please Contact GW Micro" So, what is going on now? It is on my XP computer after doing the Tool Kit update a few minutes ago, Sincerely Bruce ----- Original Message ----- From: Aaron Smith <mailto:asm...@aisquared.com> To: gw-scripting@gwmicro.com Sent: Tuesday, January 13, 2015 2:57 PM Subject: RE: Window-Eyes 9.0 sdk Hi, Sean.
