I have the same issue on 2 separate instances of 10.10 Workaround provided by Matt Wolfgang seems to work. Though what it does is removes Broadcast from indicator-applet completely, but when you start gwibber, it appears fine.

If the program is running, then just the name is displayed, and if it isn't running, both the name and description are displayed. Thus, if I have nothing running, the list looks like: Empathy - Send and recieve messages Evolution Mail - Read and write emails Gwibber Microblogging Client - Microblogging client for Gnome and if I then start Empathy, it looks like: Empathy Evolution Mail - Read and write emails Gwibber Microblogging Client - Microblogging client for Gnome However, if I start Gwibber, it shows up twice in the list; once representing the running program, and once as if it weren't running: Empathy - Send and recieve messages Evolution Mail - Read and write emails Gwibber Microblogging Client Gwibber Microblogging Client - Microblogging client for Gnome If I click on the first entry, Gwibber pops up as usual. If I click on the second entry, though, it starts a second instance of Gwibber.
