Pressing space does not decrease available character count

Bug description:
Hi!
Pressing space in the text box does not decrease the character count. The
character count is only decreased after another letter is typed. For example,
"I have a cat." {extra spacing only for clarity! it is only one
space represented!} As is hope
Word count------> 1*1 1 1 *1 1 *1 1
3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3
9 9 7 4 4 2 2 0
I hope the illustration better explains what I mean. * is where the
character count should decrease for the space, but doesn't.
I hope this isn't a duplicate of another bug; it doesn't appear to be
one. Please forgive me if it is!
