I've just had this on a fresh upgrade from ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 the setsid unity fixed as described above.

Post compiz crash everything is fill and the quicklist show as expected. I'm assuming this is actually an issue with compiz. It shows up everytime there is a new version installed. Are there ant logs anywhere that would be useful to you guys?
