You can pigggy back them off of RPC requests to the server, i.e. every time
you make a call to the server anyway, the server can send some log message
back with the result.

Alternatively you could setup a separate GWT RPC on a timer which pulls the
log messages from the server (which you'll have to queue up there). I'm
assuming this is all for development mode since polling like this and send
all the server messages to the client could make an app quite slow for real
users. But for development, I can see where this would make a lot of sense.
