You may also need a servlet and servlet-mapping entry in your web.xml for
gwt-log

If you have the log4j jar installed on the server then that "foo" log
message should show up. If you don't have a log4j jar, gwt-log will default
to java.util.logging, which has a higher default log level. A good test is
just this:

  Log.fatal("bar");
