Try adding the following line to ~/.gwyddion/settings "/app/3d/axes/disable" boolean True (or changing the value from False to True if you already have the setting there). It will globally disable drawing of axis labels on 3D views. I'm afraid if it stops the crashes I can't do anything about them. Every time I observed this GtkGLExt examples/demos that draw text crashed too. So the bug seems to be in GtkGLExt or in the OpenGL implementation.
