The colour of things drawn outside the image area (rulers, value scale,
various labels, ...) is currently not customisable and it is always
black.  Changing that opens another can of worms.

But I suppose normally you would want the colours of all these things
the same, just not black.  That is probably still reasonable.  I will
consider it the next time I gather enough strength to revisit the image
export module and add another dozen options there...

The same here.  It would have to be a PNG-only option because the vector
formats do not need it (they are already background-less) and of the
pixmap formats only PNG has reasonable alpha channel support (TIFF has
it in principle too but application support is shaky).

Then there is the technical issue with premultiplied alpha in Cairo vs.
non-premultiplied alpha in PNG.  It is not principial though, just more
work to get the image export right...
