Gwyddion inherits language setting from the environment so that should
only happen when you have everything else in German too.

Change the LANGUAGE environment variable. From terminal, this means
running Gwyddion like
LANGUAGE=en_US gwyddion
or
LANGUAGE=en_GB gwyddion
I am not sure how to best set an environment variable for an application
run by other means as I do not use MacOS...
