Aaron:

The "*" in "*Data" means the current data view. Some maps can have multiple "data" views. In its general form, a data view is one with world coordinates, as opposed to the "Base" view, which is attached to the piece of paper and has units of mm. Say you had a map with 4 different survey areas in four different data views, labelled "Data1", "Data2", "Data3", and "Data4". You could plot line paths (for instance) in each view in turn by selecting the "Make this the current plotting view..." item from the right-mouse menu of the current view cursor (just below the group manager button), and then running the PATH GX. Inside the GX access is made to "*Data", so it will get the current data view. By default, of course, the current "data" view is exactly that, the view named "data".

The moral is: in GXs, use "*data", so the GX is more flexible and will work with any view, no matter what its name, as long as it is the current data view.

Subject: [gxnet]: Data Views

Hi everyone,

I am currently experimenting around with a custom GX to put symbols on a map. My question is about the creating views(i.e. the Creat_MVIEW() method). What is the exact meaning of "*Data" as the view name and what is the difference, if there is any, between "*Data" as the view name and "Data" as the view name?
