In response to the previous thread... You can contact the NCDOT Division of Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation in addition to the District Engineers office
District Engineer Reid Elmore for Wake County and express your concern. New Light Road is a State and Local Bicycle Route and it is the District Engineers responsibility to ensure the condition of that road is maintained in accordance with the terms agreed upon when designating New Light a bike route. When I was with DBPT a few years back, I made the DE repair the road surface when they laid down BST or chip seal and did linear patches that were dangerous for cyclist. NL now is a traffic hazard and terrible to cycle on. However, current budget cuts and lack of highway funds has taken its toll on all the roads in NC so it will be a tough battle to get funds directed to NL but it doesn't hurt to try.
