After starting a few minutes late we had 13 riders do the full 56 mile
route. I had a 19.5 pace.

As we were leaving we could see Rick I. riding up Patterson. We finally
caught him on Cheek and he joined us for the remainder. In the usual Gyro,
every man for himself in the last 10 mile fashion, him and Craig were the
strongest and bolted up Red Mill and back to Ravenstone. Tim could have
stayed with them (bad knee and all) but held back to support the group :-).

It was a great ride with everyone working well together. We rode well
maintaining a steady effort both up and down the hills.well done gang!

Each ride leader has their own quirks.with that said, for the 18-19 pace
ride, both Ken and I agree that rides leaves at the posted times so a 7:30
start time means we leave the parking lot at 7:30 - please be ready so you
don't get left behind.

To be continued next week!

B Group ... with More Options:

For our safety ...
1) If this is your first time or if it's been a while since you cycled with
us please be courteous and contact me prior to showing up for our group
ride. ( <mailto:[email protected]> [email protected])
2) Please contact Tony ( <mailto:[email protected]>

your cycling needs.
3) B group was created 2 years ago and based on the Gyro categories/levels
web page ( <http://www.raleighgyros.com/rides.htm>
http://www.raleighgyros.com/rides.htm) therefore our group rides are for
experienced cyclists with substantial group riding experience. We offer the
Sunday Touring ride for those without this experience.

THE PLAN:
One or more groups will leave with the intent of riding as a group at a
target pace. We will try to cover the same routes, albeit a shorter distance
for the slower group, so if you're struggling or want to ride at an easier
pace, you can move back to a slower group. If you're already in the slowest
group, the ride leader will check to make sure you can make your way back
alone or with another volunteer. You'll know within the first 7 miles
whether or not you're strong enough to maintain the pace. The general rule
is that you should be able to maintain at least a 19+mph pace for the A
Group, 18mph pace for 40-50 miles with the B+ Group or a 16mph pace for
30-40 miles with the B Group, when considering which group to ride with. If
you can not maintain these paces, then it is suggested that you consider the
C/B- Sunday ride. (Please refer to the link above).

Each group should make a concerted effort to keep the group together but
there will always be those who want to pick up the pace on the return. It is
more appropriate to do this the last 5-7 miles of a ride. The short hammer
sessions, that are always inevitable during our rides, will not be affected.
