Gyro Nation.

I picked a great night to return to my ride, if I may be so bold as to refer to
it in that manner. In all of my years with the Gryos I cannot remember a time
when a group of 15 riders rode with such control as our group did last night.

Having experienced riders certainly helps, and seeing the tandem on the Tuesday
ride is certainly a great sign. I hope that they continue to ride with us
because we can all learn about riding etiquette simply by being on the same
ride as they are. (It is always great seeing Carlos...he is a long time
Gyro...) Having the Trek store's ace mechanic, Matt on the ride is re-assuring
just in case there is a mechanical...

What was really pleasing was the group pacelining from Patterson to the finish;
minus the primes and the finishing stretch. I was a bit out of practice, but
was quickly put into place by some reminders from my friend, Keil. Having
everyone sharing the work made it possible for everyone to hang on without too
much difficulty.

As we went up Burton I was wondering when things were going to happen since we
were still pacelining, and found out when Grey accelerated and opened up a gap.
I was impressed with how far out he was when he went; I think that maybe he
expected someone to be with him. Keil was next to me in the peloton, when I
heard him say something about "there goes Grey".

Keil decided to chase him down, and knowing him I am sure this had to do with
Grey attacking so early, and Keil figuring he would run out of gas. Keil did
catch him and take the Prime.

We got back together and pacelined until the Doc. I could not believe that we
were all together all the way up Patterson...I cannot think of the last time we
did this. When we hit the Doc the boys began to accelerate as we neared the
Prime, and it was Chris who was the strongest. This was Chris' first win up the
Doc, but it will not be his last.

Things picked up on Carpenter Pd. and I am sure that it had to do with someone
calling out the average speed with the implication that we were dogging it a
bit. Things got frisky, and, I believe it was Tony who yelled out something
about "isn't this a spicy meat-a-ball", or something like that. We were moving
along pretty well at that point.

The race for the finish had a number of guys in contention, but it was Grey who
was first in followed by Master Mechanic Matt and then Lou. Believe it or not I
was not far behind and had a good view of the fight to the finish. The guys
really put out a great effort.

We had some mixed readings regarding pace, but I think that this was because
some riders began their computers in the parking lot. The actual start is once
we cross the intersection, and Tony had this reading.

He had us at 22.8 for 31 miles. Not bad.

Great ride, guys!!
