Gyro Nation, Here we go! Another season of weekday riding and Tuesday ride reports from your's truly. (Do I hear a collective "yippee"!) One change this year: I will expatiate less and be more succinct in these reports. Promise. But, not yet...)
There were 4 of us on the first training ride for Rick's Ride. The guys were kind enough to have their waivers signed and ready (unfortunately, when I returned to my car after the ride I could only find waivers for Ivan and Steve...was the 3rd one turned in?...I find it hard to believe that I could misplace a waiver considering the fact that it had nowhere to go but in my car!!...but, I have done stanger things...) I took the boys on our normal route with the only exception being that we went to the top of Olive Branch instead of taking the Doc to save some time since it was getting dark. This was a very nice group. There were no rules tonight other than staying together. Each rider could pull as long or as short as they pleased. And, each rider did their share of work. Of course, this will change once this ride becomes official on March 30th. At that time the length of pulls will be controlled once we hit Patterson (unless you are in a break...), but, more on that in a later email. All in all a very pleasant ride with good riders. Absolutely no issues; just fresh air and time in the saddle. Can anyone think of a better way to end a work-Tuesday that has nothing else going for it? We rode controlled, and, it was only in the last 1/4 mile going to the top of Olive Branch that I announced that a surge would be ok, and even this was a short sprint. We rode 29.5 miles at 18.5 pace, which was perfect. Nice job, guys. I will be doing another training ride same time, same place next week, the 23rd. Same rules...come on out and stretch the legs and ride just as hard as the group dictates. I get this feeling that the weather is going to be great. Things really get rolling on the 30th where I will set the pace at 20+ and encourage attacks and strong paceline riding. The goal on Tuesdays is to learn to ride hard and smart. Work together; chase down breaks; form a break; and, see how important it is to have friends in the peloton! Rick PS. What we have experienced in the past is that even though attacks are permitted once we hit Patterson it is very rare that one actually occurs. Most of us do not want to be hung out to dry so early in the ride, but, every so often someone feels frisky enough to go...Keil?? -- You received this message because you subscribed to the Gyro email group.
