PLEASE READ. If there is anything about this ride that does not fit your style of riding we respectfully ask that you find another group.
The official start of Rick's Ride begins this Tuesday. The Place: St. Francis (directions located on our website: www.raleighgyros.com) Date/Time: Tuesday, March 30 @ 5:45pm Pace: 20-21 Distance: 30 miles Course: Standard (listed below) The ride objective is quite clear: to use the collective energies of our strongest riders to complete the course as fast as possible. Everything that each rider does on this ride must be done with this in mind. If you go off the front you must be able to justify this action by asking yourself: how does this help the group to achieve it's objective? Attacks are permitted once we hit Patterson, but, once again, if you leave the group it must be with the intention of helping the overall pace of the ride. If you are in great form for this time of year, and you have a legitimate chance of staying away, then you would be helping the group. They would need to organize and chase you down. This is motivating, and, fun, albeit painfull. When we hit Patterson the max. length of pulls will be strictly controlled. Stronger riders are asked to take the max. time on their pulls (30 seconds); all else are asked to pull only as long as they can to keep the pace up (15 seconds?). If you are tiring skip your turn. We need as many legs as possible for the entire distance! WE DO NOT WAIT FOR DROPPED RIDERS. PLEASE KNOW THE COURSE. WE DO NOT STOP (AS A GROUP) FOR MECHANICALS. PLEASE BE PREPARED. HAVE YOUR CELL PHONE AND AN EMERGENCY CONTACT NUMBER. YOU MUST HAVE SIGNED A GYRO WAIVER TO PARTICIPATE. IT IS NOT LIKELY THAT THERE WILL BE ANY AT THE RIDE SINCE MANY OF US RIDE THERE AND BACK; TONY HAS THESE AVAILABLE ONLINE. SAFETY DICTATES ALL OF OUR ACTIONS. "ON THIS POINT THERE CAN BE NO DEBATE"*. PLEASE 'ERR' ON THE SIDE OF CAUTION. ANYONE WHO RIDES UNSAFELY WILL BE RESPECTFULLY ASKED TO FIND ANOTHER GROUP. PLEASE INFORM THE RIDE LEADER IF YOU DO NOT PLAN ON RETURNING TO THE PARKING LOT. WE WILL GO BACK FOR DROPPED RIDERS WHO DO NOT SHOW UP IN THE PARKING LOT IF WE ARE NOT AWARE OF YOUR WHEREABOUTS. COURTESY DICTATES ACTION. ON THOSE STRECHES OF ROAD WHERE THERE IS HEAVY TRAFFIC WE WILL BE SINGLE-FILE I.E. REDWOOD, CHEEK. THIS MEANS THAT ROTATING WILL BE DIFFICULT, AND SOME RIDERS WILL BE AT THE FRONT FOR LONG STRETCHES. PLEASE ALLOW THESE RIDERS TIME TO RECOVER ONCE THEY PULL OFF BY NOT ATTACKING OR JACKING UP THE PACE. Let's have a safe, fun, fast ride. *to quote Poppi from Seinfeld The "Standard" course: Right turn out of parking lot.
